John was born Abt 1859.

There are a number of difficulties with the information about John in [Barnhart/Warter]. It seems to conflate John with both his father and his son. It consistently lists this John as born in 1869, however, it has him dying in 1905 "at 80 yrs. old." It also states that John was "a brother to Charles, a blacksmith." However, it doesn't list any sibling of John named Charles, though it does list a son by that name. It lists his ninth child, Warren, as being born in 1878, when John would have been 9 years old. Either Warren's birth date is wrong, or John's is wrong.

To make matters more complicated, some marriage dates are given. His son, John Jr. is listed as marrying in 1892. If Warren's birth date is correct, then that is possible for his older brother, John Jr. If John Sr.'s is correct, then John Jr. would have been marrying as a child. It lists Warren's year of marriage as 1902--again, consistent if Warren's birth year is correct and not John Sr.'s.

For now, I've sorted it out as follows. I've moved that death date to his father, as William would have been 80 in 1905. Since the marriage dates are consistent with Warren's birth date, I've assumed that John Sr.'s birth date is the one that is incorrect. Noting that there is a gap in the birth years of his siblings, I've tentatively moved him to Abt. 1859 instead of 1869. This would make it possible to have children in 1878. I've assumed that John, brother of Charles the blacksmith, is really John, Jr.

The alternative is to assume that the parent/child relationships are mis-stated the various individuals belong to different families.
