Some time after 1910, her family moved to Derry, Pennsylavania. There she met and married Lloyd. Her niece, Charlotte (Showers) Hensel recalls:
“ | Remembering Dorothy, one thinks of the word serene. Her home was always clean and her children were neat, well-behaved and she made sure they attended Church regularly. Occasionally, the family would gather at her home for a meal of chicken-fried groundhog which Lloyd enjoyed hunting. When Dorothy wasn't cooking, cleaning, or tending babies, you might find her at her sewing machine, mending, making clothes for her children, or making sheets and pillow cases out of flour sacks. |
She was running to catch a train while pregnant with her eleventh child and fell. That fall led to a septic abortion and septicemia and, very soon after, she died. She is buried next to her daughter, Marion, who died as a child.
