In 1860 he was a wagonmaker. He was a private in the Civil War, Co. A, 21st Reg., Ohio Volunteer Infantry from 28 Aug 1861 to 23 Sep 1864 and in another outfit until 27 May 1865. He went to Union Twp., Hancock County, Ohio and was listed as a farmer in the 1910 Census with his granddaughter Tracy Knepper living with him.
