Samuel was born 24 Dec 1838 in Fairfield Co., Ohio. He died 29 Jul 1913 in Findlay Twp., Hancock Co., Ohio from pulmonary abscess. He was buried in Maple Grove Cemetery, Findlay Twp., Hancock Co., Ohio.
He attended Otterbein College with his brother Cyrus 1860-1861. In 1870 they lived in Union Twp., Madison Co., Ohio. In 1880 and 1900 they lived in Hancock Co. He was a farmer and gardener. In 1910 a highway was built through Powell Cemetery in Fairfield Co., Ohio where Samuel's father, mother, six brothers and one sister were buried. Samuel and his son-in-law, Hamilton Caslow, went to Fairfield County with a wagon and team of horses and moved the remains of these relatives and reburied them in Maple Grove Cemetery, Findlay, Ohio. Inscriptions for the nine are on one tall central stone with nine small stones in front.
