#36 Albert E. Knepper ( Benjamin C. KnepperWilliam C. KnepperGodfrey KnepperJohann Gottfried "Gottfried" KnepperClemens KnepperHans Peter KnepperTilmann Knepper )

Albert was born 3 Apr 1861 in Summerhill, Cambria Co., Pennsylvania. He died 5 Dec 1917 in Newton Hamilton, Mifflin Co., Pennsylvania from cirrhosis of the liver. He was buried 8 Dec 1917 in St. John's Cemetery, Altoona, Blair Co., Pennsylvania.

His birth year is given as 1861 on the 1900 Census and 1862 on his death certificate based upon information supplied by his son. I've used the earlier date as it, presumably, came from Albert, himself.

Some sources say he died in Altoona but his death certificate lists as given here.

An undated obituary from the Altoona Tribune reads:

Albert E. Knepper, Pennsy Yard Engineer, Succumbs at Newton Hamilton

After an illness due to cirrohsis, of the liver, extending over the last year, Albert E. Knepper, a well known Pennsy yard engineer of this city, and past dictator of Altoona lodge, No. 74, Loyal Order of Moose, died yesterday morning at 11:30 o'clock at the home of his sister in law, Mrs. Ira Wilson, Newton Hamilton.

Born at Summerhill, April 3, 1862, Mr. Knepper, came to America with his parents, Benjamin C. and Mary Knepper, both deceased, and while quite young entered the employ of the Pennsy. He worked in the local yards ten years and was promoted to engineer. He served in that capacity thirty five years. Last June he went to Pittsburg, visited a sister and underwent treatment for his affliction.

Eight weeks ago, when he failed to regain his vigor, he went to Newton Hamilton with the hope of improving. He failed to become any better and sank rapidly until death ensued.

He was elected dictator of the local Moose lodge, a short time after it was instituted and was actively identified with that organization. He was also a member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and the Pennsy Relief association.

He was twice wedded, being survived by his second wife, Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Knepper; and two children by his first wife; Mrs. Margaret I. Ryan and Joseph C. Knepper, both of this city. These brothers and sisters also survive; Harry H., Leona, Mrs. Daisy Shaffer, all of Pittsburg; Calvin, Edward and Mrs. Eliza Vaughn, all of this city.
