William was born 25 Jul 1843 in Berlin, Brothersvalley Twp., Somerset Co., Pennsylvania. He died 15 Jun 1864 in New Market Co., Virginia.

He enlisted in Co. B, 54th Regt., Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry. He served one enlistment of three years and then re-enlisted. He was killed in Battle of New Market in Virginia and buried by Confederates in an unknown grave.
