Paul was born 6 Jul 1917 in Pittsburgh, Allegheny Co., Pennsylvania. He died 6 Feb 1995 in Alexandria, Louisiana. He was buried in Trinity Episcopal Church, Cheneyville, Louisiana.

He graduated magna cum laude from Louisiana State University in 1940. He did graduate work at Louisiana State University in cultural geography and illustrated several of his wife's published books with photographs. He was a research-editorial officer for the Historical Records Survey, a division of the Works Projects Administration. He was head of the Louisiana statewide organization in its closing year. He was the former publisher of the Bunkie Record newspaper. He was an accountant for the Haas Investment Company in Bunkie, Louisiana and opened the Eakin & Associates Accounting Firm in 1949. Later he was an accountant for the Farmer's Dusting Company and Wright Insurance Company.

Sue was born 7 Dec 1918 in Loyd Bridge, Allen Parish, Louisiana. She died 17 Sep 2009 in Bunkie, Avoyelles Co., Louisiana. She was buried in Trinity Episcopal Church, Cheneyville, Louisiana.

She is the daughter of Samuel Pickles & Myrtle (Guy) Lyles. She was a professor and historian at Louisiana State University at Alexandria. She edited Solomon Northrup's Twelve Years a Slave: the diary of a free man sold into slavery, and was the author of several history books. She was Archivist for the Louisiana State Archives and Records Service. She was a National Endowment for the Humanities fellow in 1974; won the Outstanding American History Professor award from Daughters of the American Revolution in 1975; won the Louisiana Committee of the American Revolution Bicentennial research award in 1976.
