John was born 28 Jul 1778 in Mechling homestead, Northampton Co., Pennsylvania. He was baptised 9 Sep 1778 in Zion's Lutheran Church. He died 12 Aug 1856. He was buried in Lutheran Church Cemetery, Zionsville, Pennsylvania.
On his marriage record, his name is given as Meixel and Anna's as Oberle.
On 1 Jun 1800, he came into possession of the family homestead through partition proceedings. On 18 Mar 1847, he sold the farm to his son, Anthony, for $7875.90.
Anna Margaret was not his stepsister as given in some early accounts. It was her uncle, not her father, who married Thomas' widow, Katherine.
John Jarret was a lieutenant in the Pennsylvania Milita during the War of 1812.
On his tombstone his name is spelled as Johannes.
