He enlisted as a first lieutenant, Company H, 168th Pennsylvania Volunteers in Oct 1862. By 1865, he raised Company F, 103rd Regiment and was commissioned as its captain. Later he was a major in the 10th Regiment of the Pennsylvania National Guard.
On the 1870 Census of Hempfield Twp. he is a house carpenter.
