The same record shows a younger brother, Edwin, of the correct age for Charles, whose middle initial was E. Charles' death certificate lists his father as Hans Jefferson. One wrinkle is that Hans' wife on the census was Mary, but Charles' mother was Elizabeth Hansen. It's possible Elizabeth died between 1908 and 1910 and Hans remarried to Mary, or that Elizabeth and Mary are the same person.
