Amandes was born 6 Apr 1842 in South Whitehall Twp., Lehigh Co., Pennsylvania.

He had around only two terms of schooling. Nevertheless, he became a proprietor of a hotel and owner of a 50 acre farm at Walbert's Station in Lehigh Co., Pennsylvania. In 1869 he sold this property and moved to Allentown, Pennsylvania. His business ventures were in the hosiery and knitting machine fields.

Amandes married #41996 Anna Keiser.

Anna was born Jan 1847 in Pennsylvania.

She is the daughter of Peter & Anna (Guth) Keiser.
