In 1942, he received a B.A. from Westminster College in Pennsylvania. Then he served in World War II for four years as a sergeant in the Army Air Corps. In 1947, he received his M.B.A. from the University of Denver and continued to upgrade his education until, in 1983, he was made Dean Emeritus at the University of Rochester.
