The following is taken from a notice in the Indiana Weekly Messenger dated 16 Jun 1927:

The community was again called upon to sorrow at the passing of a prominent resident, in the death shortly after noon Sabbath of Ross Mechlin Sutton, in the home of his brother, Philip M. Sutton, West Philadelphia St. Death was attributed to heart trouble, from when he had suffered recurrent attacks & which, although painful & weakening, were not regarded as serious.

Early Sabbath morning, Mr. Sutton sustained another attack, which finally yielded to treatment & restful sleep came. Shortly after the noon hour, Mrs Herbert Long, who with her husband & family have apartments in the Sutton

residence, entered his bedroom to inquire if she could do anything & was shocked to find that a peaceful death had been accomplished.

Ross Mechlin Sutton s/o Peter Sutton & Jane (Mechlin) Sutton. -b in Indiana(PA) 08 Ap 1872 & had resided all of his life in this city. He received his education in the public schools & the Indiana State Normal Sch, later becoming an expert in civil engineering, being associated with D.L. Moorhead & others in this section. Religiously he was an attendant of the First Presby Ch; fraternally he was connected with the Benevolent & Protective Order of Elks & socially he was a member of the Cosmopolitan Club & the Indiana Country Club. He also took an active interest in political matters & worked indefatigably in the interests of the Republican party.

Mr. Sutton was possessed of a bright, genial disposition; made & kept friendships easily and by his personality showered with many generous and likeable traits, became an outstanding and prominent figure in the counsels of his associates. His sudden passing came as a severe shock to the community and the regret at his departure from mortal life to immortal life is genuine and widespread.

The deceased leaves a brother, Philip M. Sutton, with whom he made his home, and a sister, Annie, the wife of W. Fred Wettling, of North Sixth Street. Less than a year ago, the family was called upon to sorrow at the passing of a bro, Frank Sutton, whose death came after many years of suffering.
