#176 John Power ( George Power )

John was born Apr 1834 in Pennsylvania. He died Bef 1910.

John may have been married three times. On the 1860 Census of Mill Hall, Pennsylvania, his wife is Mary, born Abt 1830. John lists his occupation as laborer.

On his Civil War draft registration in 1863 he is married and living in Mill Hall. His occupation is given as laborer.

On the 1870 Census John is married to Hannah, born Abt 1837 which seems beyond census rounding. Presumably Mary has passed away since she doesn't show on the census for the area. He is an ax maker and has a son.

In 1880 he is still in Mill Hall, Pennsylvania and still an ax maker. He is marked as married. Hannah does not show up anywhere in the area, so I presume she has passed away. The next line is for Elizabeth Whiteleather who is divorced or widowed and lists her occupation as house keeper. According to the 1900 Census John and Elizabeth married Abt 1887 so, presumably, the census taker just made a mistake in not marking John as widowed.

Elizabeth had a daughter, Susie, born 1863 in Pennsylvania. It's interesting that John's son, William, shows up in 1900 with a wife Susie, born 1863 in Pennsylvania. So far I have no way of knowing if William married his step-sister but it's certainly a possibility.

By the 1900 Census John and Elizabeth are living with their son, William.

John married first #66802 Mary.

Elizabeth was born Sep 1836 in Pennsylvania.

Tracing Elizabeth back before she appears with John, she may be one of the Elizabeth Whiteleathers out in Columbiana Co., Ohio, although the birth years are a bit off. There is one who was born in Pennsylvania, which is where Elizabeth indicates as her birth state in later censuses.

She is living with her stepson on the 1900 and 1910 Censuses.
