His World War I draft card gives the month of birth as April. It shows him as an axe maker for the Mann Edge Tool Co. in Mill Hall. He is listed as medium height, medium build, gray eyes and brown hair.

At the time of his marriage, he lived in Cedar Springs, Pennsylvania. He was a laborer in a brick yard.

On the 1900 Census he is in Bald Eagle Twp., Clinton Co., Pennsylvania with Alice, Clarence and Earl. He is a farmer.

In 1910 he is listed in Lamar Twp., Clinton Co., Pennsylvania and is a woodsman.

In 1920 he is still in Lamar Twp. working in the ax factory making draw bits.

On the 1930 Census of Greene, Clinton Co., Pennsylvania he is a laborer on a farm, presumably Clarence's.

In 1940 he is back in Lamar Twp. working as a kiln fireman.

The [Mr] source includes the following text from an obituary of unknown source. Some of the facts in it are at odds with his marriage license.

John Edward Powers, 85, died at 5.30 a.m. today at his home at Mill Hall RD1 a mile above Cedar Springs. He had been in failing health in recent weeks, and was a patient in the Lock Haven hospital from March 4 until last Wednesday.

Mr. Powers and his wife, Alice R. Knarr Powers, who survives him, were married in 1895 at Rosecrans. They had observed their 65th wedding day last year.

Mr. Powers worked variously in local brick yards for the Mann Edge Tool Co. at Mill Hall, and for W.O. Knapp in the lumber business until his retirement 5 years ago. He was born at Jacksonville, Centre County, and had lived in Lamar Twp. 55 years. He was a member of the Mount Pleasant Evangelical United Brethren Church of the Sugar Valley charge.

Surviving are also three sons, Clarence W., Breenburr, Kenneth E., Howard RD 2, and William A., Avis, seven grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, a brother and two sisters, Walter E. Powers, Jersey Shore RD, Mrs Annie Paul of Alberta, Canada, and Mrs. Effie Williams, Lock Haven.

Edward married #197 Alice Regina Knarr.
