I have not found him on the 1900 Census as yet but he does appear in a city directory for Pittsburgh in 1902. He is living at 501 Arch St.
He received his medical license in 1903 from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine according to a listing of Westmoreland Co. physicians from 1938. His death notice in the 1947 Journal of the American Medical Association gives his alma mater as the Western University of Pennsylvania in Pittsburgh, an older name for the university used from 1819 to 1908.
The 1910 Census of Vandergrift Heights, Pennsylvania lists him as a physician with a general practice. The 1918 Pennsylvania Medical Journal lists him as a physician in Vandergrift Heights.
He enlisted on 1 Aug 1917. He served as a captain in the Medical Corp. of the 329th Field Artillery, American Expeditionary Force, in France from 10 Apr 1917. He was discharged on 12 May 1919.
On the 1920 Census of Vandergrift Borough he, Laura and Sara appear with the last name of Copland.
On the 1930 Census of Vandergrift Borough, his home is valued at $5,000. The 1938 Physical List shows him as a dermatologist in Vandergrift.
In 1940 he is still in Vandergrift. Elizabeth and William are living with them.
The 1945 Census of Florida shows him retired with Laura in Pinellas Co., Precinct 15.
His burial plot is Section 14 Row 2 Site 1.
