#365 John Seyler ( John Christian SeylerJoseph Seyler )

John was born Abt 1800 in Pennsylvania. He died Bef 1850.

We find what appears to be John on the 1830 Federal Census of Lamar, Centre Co., Pennsylvania. He is listed as John Seiler. Rhoda would be the older female in the household. The age ranges would put their birth in the neighborhood of 1800. The younger female is probably a daughter since she's a bit too young to be a servant. The lack of William is interesting since other sources place him as born Abt 1829.

The 1840 Federal Census poses its own problems. We find a John Siler living in Lamar (now in Clinton Co.) but he and his wife are exactly one decade too young when compared to the 1830 Census. John passes away but later censuses keep Rhoda roughly in the 1800-1805 range for her birth year. The children in the household are roughly what we expect. The parents are shown as 20-29 instead of 30-39. However, we do see a boy that would correspond to James, another to Benjamin, and a daughter that would match the one found on the 1830 Census, as well as another young daughter. There is still no sign of William, who would be roughly 11 years old.

We can postulate a census taker simply making a mistake on this census. However, I should also note that there is a John Seyler who is born Abt 1812 that shows up on the 1850 Census of Porter in Clinton Co. This John is shown living in the hotel run by the Custard family and he has no wife or children with him.

John married #368 Rhoda Mincer.

Other names for Rhoda: Rhoda Seyler.

Rhoda was born 1801 in Clinton Co., Pennsylvania. She died 25 Feb 1869. She was buried in Disciples Cemetery, Salona, Clinton Co., Pennsylvania.

On the 1830 Federal Census and the 1840 Federal Census she is quite likely the older woman in John Seyler's household.

In the 1850 Federal Census she is living with her son, William. They are mis-indexed as Leyler.

In the 1860 Federal Census she is enumerated with her son, Benjamin.
