On the 1880 Census of New Derry and Bradenville, Pennsylvania. Albert is two years old.
We find him still living in that town in 1900, next door to his brother, William, and close by his parents, but now he is shown as 26 years old--aging four years. He is a coal miner.
I haven't found him on the 1910 Census. There's an Albert Steffer married to a Lizzie living in Newberry, York Co., Pennsylvania. However, Lizzie is eight years older than expected and Albert works in a felt mill, not a coal mine as he has on all other censuses. There's an Albert M. Stouffer of approximately the correct age living in Greencastle, Franklin Co., Pennsylvania who is a bricklayer and married to Ida.
On the 1920 Census, he is living in Crafton, Allegheny Co., Pennsylvania. His birth year is back to 1878, but the place has changed to West Virginia and he has been promoted to foreman of the coal mine.
On the 1930 Census, he is in Brackenridge, Allegheny Co., Pennsylvania and is married to Beulah. Albert's birth place has returned to Pennsylvania. He is listed as a coal miner.
On the 1940 Census, they are still in Brackenridge and he is a miner. His brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Earl & Hazel Starry, live with them. His birth place is back to West Virginia.
His death certificate shows him as a retired watchman for the Allgeheny Steel Corporation.
