Much of the family tree was left behind in the Old World of eastern Europe. This includes not only the ancestors. Original surnames were lost during immigration, let alone determining maiden names. Even geographic origins are obscure—either missing entirely or just a country such as, "Marcus Goldstein was Romanian or the Relkins were from Russia."
