Carey was born 17 Nov 1865 in Hancock Co., Ohio. He died 1925.

Carey was a cabinetmaker and master mechanic and was in great demand. They moved frequently. In 1914 they lived in Auburn, Indiana. In May 1923 Carey and his future son-in-law, William Root, drove to California in a 1920 Buick 6 touring car. After Minnie's death Carey moved to California . He lived in the mountains in a tent with his brother, Vernon, trying to combat tuberculosis.

Minnie was born 7 Mar 1866. She died 1922. She was buried in Woodlawn Cemetery, Auburn, DeKalb Co., Indiana.

She is the daughter of Willian Henry & Dorcas L. (Boyer) Shaffer.
