Max was born 16 Sep 1915 in Quincy, Illinois. He died 19 Jul 1985 in Los Angeles, Los Angeles Co., California. He was buried in Woodlawn Park S, Miami, Florida.

He is the son of Matthew & Rose (Schanz) Lepper. He graduated from Oberlin Conservatory, Master of Music from Cincinnati Conservatory, and PhD from University of Iowa. He was in the USAF from 1942-1946. Max taught piano for 35 years. He was Professor of Applied Music at the University of Miami, Florida and retired as head of the department. He died while in Los Angeles for his daughter's wedding.
