Charles was born 20 Oct 1836 in Brothersvalley Twp., Somerset Co., Pennsylvania. He died 27 Feb 1899.
Charles graduated from Heidelburg College, Tiffin, Ohio and the Theological Seminary at Mercersburg, Pennsylvania. He was a minister among soldiers in the Civil War. He went to Waterloo, Iowa and was Superintendent of Schools. In 1873, he returned to Heidelburg as Professor of Belles Lettres for 19 years. In 1880, he was a teacher in Tiffin, Clinton Twp., Seneca Co., Ohio. He was later editor of newspapers in California and Idaho.
