He graduated from The Dallas Institute of Mortuary Science (Dallas, Texas) and later joined and operated the Dawson-Welch Funeral Home in Texhoma from 1955 to 2001. Tommy operated the Texhoma Ambulance service from 1955 to 1974 and worked for the Panhandle Chevrolet and Implement Company and the Texhoma Post Office.
