He enlisted as a First Lieutenant, Co. H, 168th Pennsylvania Volunteers in Oct 1862. By 1865, he raised Co. F, 103rd Regt. and was commissioned as its Captain. Later he was a Major in the 10th Regt. of the Pennsylvania National Guard.
On the 1870 Census of Hempfield Twp. he is a house carpenter.
