My grandmother's name was Cleone Frances Hatheway. She always said her father was very particular about the spelling of the name with an "e" rather than an "a". She was born on a farm on May 5, 1910 in Dakota City, Dakota Co., Nebraska. She was the daughter of Galen Joseph Hatheway and Lorraine Maude Knepper of South Sioux City, Nebraska, and the grandaughter of Gurden A. Hatheway and Mary Frances Winsor of Miles, Jackson Co., IA. Cleone was married to my grandfather, Havilah Floyd Eames on September 29, 1927 in South Sioux City, Dakota Co., Nebraska. For most of their married life, they were managers of Sprouse Reitz Variety stores in Santa Paula, Delano, and Kern City. Cleone was widowed three times. She married (2) 13 Jan 1973 John F. Asien, in Bakersfield, CA and married (3) 19 February 1990 Ray Horch, in Kauai, Hawaii. Recently, after an eight year struggle with Alzheimer's Disease, she died on January 25, 2001, and is buried in the Greenlawn Cemetery on River Boulevard, in Bakersfield, CA. Cleone and Havilah had two children: my mother, Joyce Elaine, and Havilah Le Moine, who died as an infant.
