[M] #22491 John Sindorf ( Susanna TurneyAnna Elizabeth MechlingJohn Theobald "Dewalt" MechlingDiebold "Theobald" MechlingDiebold MechlingMartin Mechling )

John was born 1830.

I lose track of John by the 1840 Census. He is no longer living with his parents. His brother, Henry, is also missing from this census but I believe shows up in Florida in another decade. However, John is not with him.

There were two John Sindorf children born about the same time in this area: this one and a child to Christian & Margaret Sindorf of Unity Twp. The 1860 Census of South Buffalo, Armstrong Co., Pennsylvania lists a John Sindorf of the correct age. The census index gives his name as Lindorf but the actual census clearly has it as Sindorf. He is married to Margaret (incorrectly indexed as Mary) and has four children living with him. I'm assuming this is our John since later censuses will show a child, William, whom we know existed.

By the census of 1870, we are seeing two John Sindorfs in the area. One, John F. Sindorf, is married to Louisa E. and lives in Hempfield Twp. The other matches the 1860 John Sindorf and has moved to Armstrong Co. It's worth noting that John F. ends up living just a few houses away from our John's sister, Hester. John of Armstrong Co. is found in Washington Twp. His last name is given as Sinford and indexed as Sinfood but his profession (blacksmith) and the names of his family members make identication reasonable. Three new children have been born, one of them William. An apprentice, Samuel Shearer, lives with them.

On the 1880 Census over in Fairview, Butler Co., Pennsylvania, John is now listed as a livery man, a natural progression for a blacksmith, and most of his family members are present, including a son, John, who follows him in the blacksmith trade. However, William is missing. At the same time, the 1880 Census of Santa Rose Co., Florida shows the man I believe to be John's brother, Henry, and a nephew of his named William has appeared. The nephew was born in Pennsylvania and his birth date is consistent.
