#20415 Benjamin Seyler ( John SeylerJohn Christian SeylerJoseph Seyler )

Benjamin was born 1839.

He appears to be living with the family of James & Margaret Porter on the 1850 census of Lamar Twp. This is next door to his first cousin once removed, Joseph Seiler.

In 1860 he is on his own, working as a laborer. His mother is living with him.

There is also a Mary Seiler, age 10, whom I would have taken to be his niece of about that age, except that Mary is enumerated with her parents. This same individual may appear on the 1870 census of Lamar Twp. living with the Harter family; however, since the niece Mary is not seen with her parents in 1870, it's uncertain. In 1880 we find a Mary Sykes née Seiler living in Lock Haven, Clinton Co.; her sister, Carrie Seiler, lives with her. Since Benjamin's niece did not have a sister with a name similar to Carrie, this might be this other Mary Seyler. While I am uncertain, I am listing Mary as Benjamin's child; Rhoda may have moved in to help him care for a young daughter if his wife died.

His name is listed on the Civil War Monument at Cedar Hill Cemetery.
