Edward was born 10 Jan 1820 in Salisbury, Somerset Co., Pennsylvania. He died 17 Aug 1896. He was buried in Oak Hill Cemetery, Lonaconing, Allegany Co., Maryland.
Prior to 1850, on the 1820 Federal Census, the 1830 Federal Census, and the 1840 Federal Census he is probably one of the boys listed in his parents' entries.
On the 1850 Federal Census of Elk Lick, Somerset Co., Pennsylvania he is a cabinet maker. It shows his birth year as around 1824.
In the 1860 Federal Census we find the family in Allegany Co., Maryland. Edward is still a carpenter. His real estate is worth $500 and his personal property $200. His birth year has moved back Abt 1820. Catherine has apparently passed away as he now seems to be married to Roseann. Almira is no longer in the house; see the introduction to this family line for my opinion on this.
The 1870 Federal Census finds them still in Maryland. Edward's property is worth somewhat less, only $100.
1880 Federal Census they are in Lonaconing, Maryland.
His FindAGrave entry lists his first name as James but gives no source for this.

Catherine was born 1822/1826 in Pennsylvania.
Some sources give her surname as Dwyer. This doesn't seem to be a match for what is written on her daughter's death certificate, although the latter is undecipherable. However, since that undecipherable entry may read "don't know", I've used Dwyer for now. There were Dwyer families in Somerset Co., Pennsylvania (assuming she met Edward there) in Upper Turkeyfoot Twp.
She appears with the family on the 1850 Federal Census of Elk Lick, Somerset Co., Pennsylvania.
Her given death date of 1844 is inconsistent with the births of her children.
