On the 1900 Census of Green, Indiana Co., Pennsylvania we find Mary listed both as married and as the head of household. Further, Thomas did not die until 1901.
Perhaps the explanation is that there is a Thomas W. Engle listed in the Pennsylvania Hospital for the Insane. His birth is off by exactly 10 years but the name, birth location and number of children are correct and none of the other seven Thomas Engles in Pennsylvania seems reasonable due to age or spouse. All three children are with her. On this census her birth year moves to 1843.
On the 1910 Census Elsie is the only child at home and Mary is a widow. Her grandson and a hired hand live also with her.
I don't find a record for any of these after this census.

Wesley was born 1836. He died Bef 1860 in Indiana Co., Pennsylvania. He was buried in McDowell Cemetery, Clymer, Indiana Co., Pennsylvania.
He is the son of John & Rebecca Jane (Connor) Boring.
