#173 Rassel "Rose" Cohen ( Berl "Barnet" CohenJoseph Cohen )

Rose was born 23 Dec 1897 in Pinsk, Russia. She died 12 Sep 1975 in New York City, New York. She was buried 14 Sep 1975 in Cedar Park Cemetery, Paramus, New Jersey.

She is also in the group picture «here».

She is listed on the 1910 Census of Manhattan with her parents as Rosie. She is living with her parents in 1920 and 1930, also. On the 1915 Census of New York and the 1925 Census of the Bronx, she is a bookkeeper.

She was naturalized on 28 Sep 1933. On her application for citizenship, she listed herself as 5'3" tall, 138 pounds, black hair, brown eyes. It notes that she was out of the country around 15 Jul 1918. It was witnessed by Yetta Cohen, her sister-in-law, and Sadie Cohen, her older sister.

On her marriage license, she has become much younger: 30 years old in 1935.

In 1940 we find her in Manhattan, New York. She is married to Irving and working as a bookkeeper. Unfortunately, the ink on the census has faded so much we can't tell where she worked. Her birth year has moved forward to Abt 1902.

Rose married #804 Irving Kirshenbaum.

Marriage notes

They married 27 Jan 1935 in Bronx, Bronx Co., New York.

Irving was born Abt 1904 in Russia.

He is the son of Abraham & Anna (Bauman) Kirshenbaum.

His birth place is given as Russia on his marriage license.

On the 1940 Census he is some kind of salesman but the ink is too faded to make out more than that. He is shown as born in Poland.

Irving had a shoe store and, during the war when shoes were rationed, he supplied all family members with shoes.

If we take into account the rather unusual spelling of his last name (no 'c'), then his most probably match in the Social Security Death Index is the Irving Kirshenbaum who was born 20 Oct 1902 and died Oct 1968 in New York. If we take into account the more normal spelling of Kirschenbaum, then there are a substantial number of individuals in the SSDI who might match Irving.
