Martha was born Abt 1906 in Pennsvylania.

On the 1930 Census he is a stenographer for a glass plant.

The 1940 Census is somewhat confusing. Martha and Richard are listed as living together in Cumberland, Allegheny Co., Maryland. The census taker gave Martha Keffer her own household (#651) and designated her head of household in her entry. This designation is then crossed out and "daughter" entered. The preceding household (#806) belongs to Hice & Alice Laughlin. Richard is entered as a brother-in-law. My interpretation is that Rankin Keffer was a child of Alice Laughlin's by a previous marriage. However, Martha is listed as single. I don't know if this means they are divorced, Rankin is dead, or just that he's away in the military. Her home in 1935 is listed as Ligonier and we do see Keffer families in that area on the 1930 Census, including a Rankin Keffer of what appears to be an older generation. Martha is working as a cashier in a gas station in 1940.
